If you're not familiar with audio description, please watch this short video before continuing on with the preliminary application questions. This is a video from the UK, where there are a few slight differences in overall standards, but it will give you an idea of what AD is, why it's important, and how descriptions may sound during a TV show.
Do you have any audio description experience, training, or certifications? If not, do you have any creative or descriptive writing experience? Please specify.
AD files cover a broad range of subjects. While basic research is generally sufficient, there are clients who upload content that would benefit from being described by people with some advanced knowledge. Please check any topic you feel particularly proficient in. (*This is not a requirement)
AD consists of describing visuals that appear between dialogue for blind and partially-sighted viewers. As a describer, you will be watching entire videos and inserting written descriptions where possible, which will then be read aloud by a synthetic TTS voice alongside the audio track for viewers.
It is important to clearly and concisely describe as many details as you can to help the audience visualize what you're seeing, which can include gestures, colors, expressions, appearance, etc. But whether you're describing a movie, a classroom presentation, or a marketing video, there will be varying amounts of room between speech, so you will often have to choose which details are the most important to fit in the available space.
This section consists of a few gifs and pictures with different limits for describing each one. Please make sure to write in present tense and include as many details as you can, prioritizing the most important when necessary.
